Dry Needle Therapy
Whats Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a technique that uses thin needles to target tight, shortened muscles and trigger points, helping to relieve pain and restore movement. Stimulation causes the muscle to twitch, resulting in reduced pain and relaxed muscle fibersIt's often used to treat muscle tension, sports injuries, and chronic pain by encouraging the muscle to release and heal.Dry Needling Vs. Acupuncture
Dry needling and acupuncture use the same fine needles, but dry needling is just a subset of acupunctureDry needling targets specific tight muscles and trigger points, causing a small twitch response that helps reset the muscle and release built-up tension. It's especially effective for issues like muscle knots, sports injuries, or a stiff neck. Acupuncture, on the other hand, takes a whole-body approach, using points throughout the body to treat a wider range of conditions, from chronic pain and headaches to stress, digestive issues, and trouble sleeping.
What does Dry needling Feel like?
Most patients feel a quick pinch as the needle is inserted, followed by a brief muscle twitch or cramp-like sensation, a good sign the tight muscle is releasing. Dry needling's twitch response is more noticeable, but it's brief and often leaves the area feeling looser afterward. It can feel a bit more intense than acupuncture. Dr. Fan has over 35 years of experience with Dry needling and has developed a more comfortable approach over thousands of patients so no need to worry!
One Successful Patient Story
Dr. Fan is the best. As a patient, he is my GO TO acupuncturist to help me get over ANY musculoskeletal complaint. As a student of acupuncture and now a practicing acupuncturist, he has been the biggest influence in the way I treat patients and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him. The Austin community is so lucky to have Dr. Fan not only treating patients but also sharing his knowledge with hundreds of students over the few decades that he’s been teaching. I rate Dr Fan 20/10!
